Notes:
Exorcist's Nightmare Theatre was one of a few albums on Cobra Records by made-up bands with their musicians disguised by pseudonyms. It was written and recorded by Virgin Steele's David DeFeis and Edward Pursino with assistance from VS bassist Joe O'Reilly and ex-Steeler drummer Mark Edwards. This line-up also recorded the sole Original Sin album, with DeFeis' sister Danae as vocalist.
Contrary to rumour:
1. The Exorcist project had nothing to do with the dispute over the name Virgin Steele between the band and ex-guitarist Jack Starr. This had already been resolved by the time Nightmare Theatre was made.
2. No second album was recorded.
Also issued in Europe by Roadrunner (RR 9700); Wrongly spelled on the Labelsticker: Nightmare Theater. This is mainly due to the difference between USA and UK English.
Interesting fact: the song "Call for the Exorcist" eventually evolved into "Fire of Ecstasy" that would, fifteen years later, appear on Virgin Steele's album "The House of Atreus - Act II" (the songs are different, but some riffs and lyrics are clearly identical).
Fast forward to 2015, and two more Exorcist songs appear on the latest Virgin Steele album ''Nocturnes Of Hellfire And Damnation:'' 'Queen Of The Dead' and 'Black Sun - Black Mass.' you can definitely tell they're Exorcist songs; same lyrics but slowed down and arranged a little differently... (the Virgin Steele album is released on June 22nd, 2015).
Re-released unofficially in 2004 by Satanic Metal Records as one half of a split CD with Piledriver. Limited to 500 copies.
