Info:

Formed by the Celtic Frost roadies Ron Royce, Tommy T. Baron and Marquis Marky, Coroner soon shown a particular taste for avant-garde and experimental musical concepts, however their debut R.I.P was still mainly based on traditional speed-metal neo-classical structures subtle layered with gothic ambiences influenced by their country mates Celtic Frost. Released only one year later, Punishment for Decadence evolved naturally into a more complex sound structure mainly due to the remarkable technical skills of all band members and the creative will to break the established heavy metal boundaries.

Coroner - Punishment for Decadence. Glad to see these guys playing live now. This album is a workshop in genuine elite technical thrash. Organic and natural A+ thrash metal. Cult status=High. It is technical yet still retains musical integrity. No excuses, this album tears it up from the start. Best vocals for ominous thrash with unpretentious technical expertise. It features guitar overdubs on diminished scalar runs. Tempo changes. Guitar solos have multiple beat patterns. There are some riff parallels with Agent Steel if you listen for it. Tempo breakdowns and solos are great. Drum/lead playoffs unparalleled in metal. Classic lyrics--societal thrash. Some neo-classic references but without over doing it. Cool samples considering it is not "industrial" they just add to the overall atmosphere and do not contribute filler. These guys are like 80's riff PhD's giving lessons. Bestowing their craft upon the listener. Probably one of the all time best thrash bands.
